Simple Spam processes YouTube comments to identify spam, coordinate creator moderation, and prioritize genuine fan conversations.
Data we process
The extension and service can process:
- Visible YouTube comment text and author names.
- Authenticated comment IDs, author channel IDs, timestamps, video IDs, video titles, reply state, and moderation state.
- Classifier scores, reasons, and campaign fingerprints.
- Creator-defined phrases, safe accounts, and protection settings.
- Moderation history, action records, and aggregate counters.
How we use data
We use this data only to detect suspicious comments and campaigns, present review queues, carry out creator-authorized moderation actions, maintain product security, and provide support. Simple Spam does not sell data, show advertising, or use comment data for ad targeting.
Where data is stored
Detection preferences may use Chrome sync storage and may be synchronized by Google when Chrome Sync is enabled. The extension keeps its expiring Simple Spam browser session, connected account summary, and service origin in Chrome local extension storage. It does not keep a local comment inbox or read content from YouTube pages.
When persistent protection is enabled, the Simple Spam service stores channel metadata, comment records, scores, campaign groups, moderation state, and action history in its secured database.
Accounts marked as safe are stored by their stable YouTube account ID. A different account using the same display name is not treated as safe.
Stored YouTube comment data and action records are deleted after no more than 30 days unless they are refreshed through an active creator authorization. Shorter retention may apply after disconnection or a deletion request.
Google OAuth and YouTube
You choose when to connect a Google account. The requested YouTube authorization scope permits comment moderation. In backend mode, the service stores the Google refresh token encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Browser sessions are stored only as one-way hashes. Google's stable account identifier is used to recognize the creator across browsers.
Authenticated features communicate with Google's YouTube Data API. Manual spam reporting opens the corresponding page on YouTube; Simple Spam does not submit spam reports automatically.
Moderation actions
Simple Spam can submit creator-confirmed YouTube moderation actions, including holding, rejecting, or publishing comments. Irreversible author hiding is disabled for the beta. If you enable an automated protection mode, only newly seen comments and actions allowed by your selected mode, operator gates, and safety limits are submitted.
Service providers
We use Google and YouTube to authenticate creators and perform requested moderation actions. Our hosting and database providers process data only to operate Simple Spam. We do not load remote executable code in the extension and do not send comment data to advertising providers.
Simple Spam's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Removing your data
Use Sign out on this browser to revoke only the current browser session. Use Delete account to ask Google to revoke access and delete the Simple Spam account and its associated creator data. Removing the Chrome extension clears its local extension data but does not delete the hosted account. You can also revoke access from your Google Account.
